He did it!

What did he do? you ask.

After a year of thought and debate, and most recently weeks of obsessive shopping on Craigslist and Ebay, John found a deal he could not pass up on a bike.

Do I know what kind of bike it is? I think it is a cyclocross. (He read this and corrected me later, so I'm not sure why I guessed.)

After finding it on Craigslist last night, he went to a bike shop over lunch to check one out and ask the important questions about sizing for him. He and our friend Mike headed over to meet the owner while Elizabeth and Micki were at ballet this afternoon.

And he bought it! For the ultimate deal shopper, a two-year-old bike at a third of the original price, in great shape, and with this combination of quality components, was too good to walk away from. The owner also threw in a pair of bike shoes that went with the pedals on it.

John is not one to get giddy about much, but I think today qualifies. He keeps smiling and looking at it like it is a new car. When I took a picture of it tonight, I had to promise not to take one of him as he sat on it and figured out the shoe clips.

I'm just glad the endless search and debate on options is over - aluminum or carbon fiber?, a road bike or not?, what size would fit him right?, and every other detail possible.

For all the time spent searching for this bike I've told John that we should name it, then we would know which bike we are talking about. He is keeping his old one for camping and riding with the girls.

I will admit he got a great deal on a really nice bike. (Not that I'm fully up to speed on this market...) He can actually lift the bike with one finger, it's that light!

Now he has the proper bike to ride the MS 150 with my sister this June. Oh, the impatience to wait for nice weather to ride in!
