And the days fly by...

It has been very busy here and we have been trying our best to keep up on sleep, so it has been hard to post. Sarah did very well finishing out her medicine, and thankfully the messy diapers did continue to decrease. She is a little girl constantly on the move and impossible to trust. Her standing has continued to improve and she actually attempted a few steps on her own last week.

Our biggest prayer these days is for continuous sleep. She is falling asleep fairly well on her own, the catch is that she continues to wake about every 1.5 hours. Until about 3 o'clock in the morning we have to pick her up to console her and then she is back asleep in minutes. After that she has been improving at falling back asleep on her own or not fully waking when she cries.

Elizabeth and Rachel continue to be doting big sisters who fight over her daily. Rachel is having a hard time leaving her alone (for the most part not picking her up constantly). Elizabeth is continuing to find her place in this new environment, which is proving rather difficult with two strong willed younger sisters.

Sarah had her first well-child visit last Tuesday and had three vials of blood drawn and a finger prick for multiple blood tests. They do immunize in China, but the vaccinations vary in strength and type, so they are checking all her levels to see what she may need. She is also being tested for lead and other possible metabolic disorders. John was the strong one to hold her still for the blood draws and she survived well. We go back the 22nd to find out results and get our vaccinations. I think Mom gets to hold her down this time. :)

The morning after the last post Rachel did lose her tooth. She was proudly showing me how it could now move sideways and I told her it was so lose that if she just gave it a small tug it would probably come out. At first, her reaction was that she couldn't do that! All I did was turn around and she was "Look Mom!" holding her tooth in her hand. She could not have been more proud of herself.

It took Zoe 6 months to be able to sleep through the night on her own. She needed someone to be touching her constantly. We are not sure if this is because she had someone else with her in her crib in the orphanage. Or just because of all the major changes she was going through. So needless to say, I spent many a night sleeping in the rocking chair in her room. It turned out to be a very special bonding time between she and I. Yes, it was exhausting at times and sometimes exaspirating, but it was obviously what she needed. Now she sleeps just fine through the night(she's 5) but she still likes us to sit and hold her hand for a minute or two before she goes to sleep.
Enjoy the struggle, and love her through it.
