Crib removal

It has been just over a month since we took the crib down, and I still need to post about it.

With both Elizabeth and Rachel, two was the magic age where we moved out of the crib. John had been a little hesitant about the idea when we first talked about it for Sarah, and then I reminded him of what we did with the other girls.

So last month I left for my scrapbooking weekend and John moved Sarah out of the crib to the twin bed in her room. It was a little bit of a surprise to me that he did it. When I returned on Sunday afternoon, we proceeded to take the crib down completely.

We had been using the bed as our 'changing table' until we needed it as a bed. As you can see in the picture, the mattress is sitting directly on the frame on wood slats. We have a bed rail, but she didn't like it.

I think she loves her bed in that she can get in and out by herself and feels a little more grown up like her sisters.

So how is it going you ask?

The first couple of weeks were hard in that she woke up frequently (hourly it seemed) for simply comforting. About half the time John ended up sleeping on the floor in her room at about 3:30 in the morning.

The last week she has been doing very well sleeping and waking up very little. She has been going to sleep quickly and stays in bed when you put her down at night and for nap.

More recently, she has begun to pitter patter down the hall in the morning when she wakes up instead of crying for us.

I find it interesting that in the crib she was constantly moving around and getting herself cornered then crying in her sleep because she was stuck. In the bed she is staying in one place relatively, and has only rolled off in her sleep once.

In writing this I'm realizing how quickly we forget the 'hard' transitions. What was so difficult only three weeks ago seems so long ago already. Praise God!
